Room-sealed appliance
The Scottish Building Standards, Part I. Technical Handbook – Domestic, Appendix A Defined Terms, suggests that room-sealed appliance means: ‘…a combustion appliance which, when in operation, has its combustion chamber, air inlet and its flue outlet ways isolated from the room or space in which it is installed.’
Approved Document J, Combustion appliances and fuel storage systems, 2010 edition incorporating 2010, 2013 and 2022 amendments, defines a room-sealed appliance as: ‘…an appliance whose combustion system is sealed from the room in which the appliance is located and which obtains air for combustion from a ventilated uninhabited space within the building or directly from the open air outside the building and which vents the products of combustion directly to open air outside the building.’
